My
Day-Gig
Unfortunately,
writing and recording music has never been a way for me to pay the
bills, but I am fortunate to have found a place to work where I feel
as at home as I do in my studio. In 1978 I met the former drummer of
a popular Chicago rock band who had started his own business
manufacturing touring road cases for other rock bands. He knew that
besides being a lead guitarist in a band I was also an experienced
metal fabricator and industrial equipment designer, so he asked if I
could build a few things he needed for his factory, including some
unique machinery that wasn't commercially available. Well, this
entrepreneur not only grew his business into one of the most
well-known manufacturers of "reusable shipping containers"
(a fancy name for flight cases) in the United States, but he also
became one of my closest friends. I can never thank him enough for
all the encouragement and support he's given me to continue to write
and record.
His
name is Dennis Toma and his company is Star Case Manufacturing
Company, Inc. It's a great place to work and its management staff is
comprised of some of the nicest, most dedicated people you could
ever hope to meet, like my buddies, Darren Eason, Christine Baumler
and Ralph Hoopes. For a closer look at what Star Case is all about,
listen to a little piece I recorded as an introduction to Star Case,
and visit their website at www.StarCase.com. Star
